Chivlary IS DEAD!
I always prided myself for being a Libyan girl living in Libya...why you might ask? Here’s the answer, cos guys here in Libya are always there for you if you got into trouble, whether you know them or not... if you had a flat tire, accident (La sama7a Allah), in a fight, or any sort of help that needs a strong hand of a man. However, apparently guys are getting sick of being the brave, courageous and oh-so-helpful!!! The pic on the left is that of my car's flat tire... my friend and i were together, and we thought to ourselves, we'll do it on our on, it's not that big a deal...we will change the tire without Mr.Male's hand... I parked in a zanga, turned off the engine, opened the trunk, took out the tools, and rolled our sleeves up... i always thought i was a strong girl... and i thought i was until the damn screws didnot want to get unscrewed, i tried and tried, and tried, i shifted my whole body's power to the right, to the left, NOTHING!!! all my attempts and my friend's went down the drain, so we thought we would resort to Mr.Male for a hand, me all in awe of their physical power... BUT U THINK SOMEONE STOPPED!!!! All they did, LITERALLY was check us out, and leave, check us out and leave, CHECK US OUT AND LEAVE!!!! can you believe it... Romana looking all helpless like a cute puppy and u dont come and help her??? THAT'S YOUR JOB, they're supposed to be our knights in shining armour! so i am here to announce, that the thing i prided myself for ,is apparently dying.... im sure there are some guys who would be more than happy to get their hands dirty for us girls.... but coincidentally that day they were taking the day off... so my dear sisters of the world, im so so sorry to say out loud, at the top of my lungs, CHIVLARY IS DEAD! Seems like the bad and corrupted cells in their brains are taking over! Good qualities and manners are so extent, that im so afraid of what's going to happen in 2 to 5 years... bil 7ag ya 7'sara....

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha (shmatta awo khalass) but with all honesty personally i would help any lady/girl in distress and in the past i have, so dont worry the chivalry is NOT dead yet but it is very odd, as when any lady/girl seems in trouble all libyan guys just fall backwards to help so its odd why they didnt help you?
I hope your tire has been fixed? and who fixed it?
Fe Aman Allah

think it this way:those who checked u out and left:They made a stand, they are trying to prove that it is not done for having a man to help u when u r stressed.Come on,i think what they think is::we can ignor a lady in distress and go home with clear conscious ,beat our women ,and just admire the power of being MEN..
ooops....did i say too much?

yeah.. sincere chivalry is gone.. helping members of the opposite sex in libya these days has become a business transaction for many youth.. so it is now taboo.
and now everyone is wary of the exploding cultural 'openess'.. those who would have helped some time ago are now more cautious cause hey know the changing perception of Girls/Boys in libya currently and are afraid to be seen or branded as such..
A lot of those who will help these days are not the purest of souls..
some people dont even wanna help in case the girls get the wrong impression that they are helping them for wrong reasons...
some girls and women dont even say salam back when I say salam causually in the sreet.. they look at me as if I insulted them, or worse, a form of sexual harassment.
besides.. chivalry is not a Muslim concept.. it's a historical, european fuedal concept, based on the relationship of male dominance and female dependance...
For us Muslims, helping others, be they members of the oppsoite sex or animals is an amanah.. an obligation. and it's pretty much common sense..
Salam romana.. this is my first comment on your blog I think :)

"did i say too much?"
Depends, do you beat your Wife/Sister/Mother ? If not I don't think you said too much because I don't think any of us do :D.

Mornings everyone, hope u all had a pleasant weekend.. Let’s start with the commentaries;
Benghazi Citizen: i agree with every word u typed... its funny how some human beings, can chose what they want to be put on our side, yet find a way to contradict it... and what's even funnier, they will always find a way to convince us that what they're doing is right... makes me wonder what else are they capable of?
here's a story for you:
we knew a man who was a close family friend... very intellect, studied abroad, spoke more than a language, very funny guy with a beautiful nature... he was religious, as in the right sense of religious, not grow an untamed beard, look like u're about to beat the day light out of someone, with a look of disgust to every female walking down the street, no, he was religious in the right sense of religious, or so we thought... we found out eventually that he used to beat up his wife constantly, and at times right before Salat Al Fajir..beats her up till she's bruised/unconscious, then go and pray...
my point from all this, we knew this guy for as long as i can remember... and we never thought he had SUCH hidden depths... that's what i meant, what are they’re capable of...
Mani: Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts...highly regarded and very much appreciated...
I believe females who don’t reply salam back are stereotypes... and i think im one as well, if a guy greeted me by the street, saying Salam, i would say beeni o been nafsi, و عليكم السلام و رحمة الله و بركاته , but it wouldnot be audible... because simply, there are few guys who do that out of the goodness of their hearts... there's always something behind their words...which makes all females cautious of males... the ugly thing about this is that lots of innocent people are caught in the middle of this cross-fire...and there's nothing i guess we can do about it... if i walk down the street with my mom, i would still be called horrendous names, even though i dont reciprocate, or answer back, or show any signal of interaction to what's being said, nevertheless, im still called names?? now why is that?? Because most guys are stereotypes...plz note i said 'most'. i unfortunately fall under the former category as well, i unfortunately am, a stereotype, and believe most guys unrespectable and not so well behaved, even thought i believe that there are some who are the complete opposite...
As for helping out a lady in distress, whether its chivalry or Amanah, we all like our men to have those features...that's a fact, and as you said, a common sense. However, its becoming extent... why is humanity going backwards?
ph: i enjoyed your post regarding the Halaal/Haraam Issue... thanks for commenting
